Glowing Dewy Skin Tips & Tricks

Hi everyone!

This week is all about how to get glowing, dewy looking skin :) 

Even if you have dry skin, these tips can work for you. 

And if you have oily skin like me, you can still matte out your skin and make it appear to be dewy and glowing!

Some tips include applying sunscreen, clean your makeup brushes, use a serum, sanitize your phone, use retinol, get enough sleep, etc. Go check it out!

Here are some tips and tricks I personally use! 

First, obviously moisturizing  and taking care of your skin is the first step to glowing skin.

There are many foundations you can use that give your skin a glow, such as the L'Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation, and the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.

For me, personally, I use a matte foundation combined with MAC Fix+. After priming my face, I spray a few sprays of MAC Fix+ on my face and one spray on my foundation brush. This will give your skin a dewy finish and also help the foundation adhere to your skin. $22

This foundation brush is the Morphe M439 Deluxe Buffer brush and it's amazing!! $13.96

After you apply foundation if you want your skin extra glowy you can apply a liquid illuminator all over your face. I use the NYX Liquid Illuminator in the color Sunbeam. $7.49

The Becca Cosmetics liquid illuminators are a beautiful high end option. $41

Apply a small amount to the back of your hand and load up your foundation brush, then apply like you would a foundation.

 Apply a powder after you use the illuminator if you have oily skin like me. I use a translucent powder so it's not covering up the liquid illuminator. Two really great translucent powders are the e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder in Sheer, or the MAC Set Powder in Invisible.

Apply a matte bronzer for contour (my preference), then move on to blush.

I have three blushes that leave a nice, subtle glow on the cheeks. 

NARS blush in Orgasm is so beautiful! It has quite a lot of shimmer to it so if you don't like that, don't buy this.. "Peachy pink with shimmer." $30 

MAC blush in Margin is a gorgeous, bronzy blush. As you can see its so pretty and glowy without al the shimmer :) 

Makeup Geek Cosmetics blush in Head Over Heels. This blush is a "light bubblegum pink with sligh shimmer." So glowy and beautiful :) This one is great too because it's so affordable! $9.99

Highlighters are so important for glowing skin.. If not the most important!

These three are my personal favorites: 

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light. This highlighter is pretty subtle, you could apply this to your whole face as a setting powder if you like! $45

TheBalm Cosmetics Mary-Lou Manizer :) This is a pretty intense highlight, but it's great for more fair skin tones. $24

Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal. This highlighter is very intense, and the color opal is probably not great for those with fair or porcelain skin tones, try Moonstone instead :) I love the formula of this highlighter as well, it's so smooth! $38

Anastasia Beverly Hills contour refill in Sand is such a pretty highlight. This one has pink undertones :) I apply this one every day on the bridge of my nose, tip of my nose, and cupid's bow using my finger for the most intensity! $14 individual pan

LAST STEP is so apply a dewy finishing mist! 

Applying a makeup setting spray will help hold your makeup in place all day. There are both matte and dewy finishing sprays available. 

My three favorite dewy finishing sprays right now are: 

e.l.f. Makeup Mist and Set. This one I always keep in my purse because it's so affordable and works pretty well! Plus this one has good ingredients like aloe, cucumber, green tea, and vitamins A, C, and E. $3 at Target

Pixi by Petra Makeup Fixing Mist. This one has rose water and green tea :) I use this one every day all over my face! $15 at Target 

 MAC Fix+. Spray this one all over your face again for extra dewy skin. This one will make your skin dewy to the touch, because I have oily skin, I only use this every so often if my skin is a bit dry or I applied too much powder! $22

New Years Eve Makeup Look

As you can probably tell from the majority of my posts I love makeup. I have been watching makeup tutorials on YouTube for probably 2+ years now and finally feel comfortable playing with makeup looks. I did a really fun look inspired by Jaclyn Hill for New Years Eve this year!

 You may have seen this post on our social media pages. I posted this look on Instagram and Twitter first and had no idea it would get so much love. Carli Bybel very sweetly liked this post and shared it to her page which really helped this reach so many more people. I was also asked on Instagram to do a makeup tutorial on this look so I decided I should definitely mention what I used. Thank you all so much for your support!

I started off using MAC prolongwear concealer in NW20 as a base for my eye and under eye area. I blended this in using the Sigma F86 Tapered Kabuki. Next I applied the color Vanilla Bean from Makeup Geek using the Sigma E40 tapered blending brush to the crease of my eye and brow bone to help blend the colors I'll use next.

Next I applied the colors Creme Brulee, Birkin, Cocoa Bear, and Fresh Peach to the crease for dimension.Yes that amount of eyeshadows is really excessive.

Now I started to apply blue colors on the lid as a nice blue base for the pigment later on. I started from the outer corner of the eye with the darkest blue and went lighter with the blues as I went in. I used, in order from outer eye to inner eye: Mermaid by ABH, Houdini, Dragonfly, and Mermaid by Makeup Geek on the inner corner. I applied these using the duo ended brush that came with my Urban Decay palette.

I used the same ombre technique on my lower lash-line using the Sigma E30 Pencil brush.

Now for the fun part! I applied Bitten eyeshadow with my Sigma E40 starting with the outer corner of the eye and bringing it into the rest of my crease. Bitten is such a beautiful deep red color. To further deepen the outer corner I applied Rosette and Deep Plum by ABH. 

It's time to apply the Insomnia pigment! This is the star of the show. Take some glitter glue (I used Too Faced Glitter Glue) or wet your brush with some setting spray, apply this with your finger. Then immediately dip your finger or a brush into the pigment and apply to the center of the eye where you applied the glitter glue. The glitter glue will really just help to keep the pigment from falling on your face, which I had a problem with previously. This pigment is seriously my favorite ever!! Thank you Makeup Geek for making this (very similar to blue/brown pigment from MAC but far more affordable)!!

I really wanted to make the lower lash line pop with blue color so I applied NYX Gypsy Blue retractable eye liner. I also applied the Maybelline Master Kajal Liner in Onyx Rush to the waterline.


As a brow and inner corner highlight I used the color Bling and applied with my Sigma E30.

To finish off this look I applied Velour Lashes Carli Lash designed by Carli Bybel. These lashes are absolutely beautiful and such great quality. I want to wear them all the time but try to save them for special occasions :) I applied using tweezers and Andrea lash glue from WalGreens but any clear or black lash glue will work. Then I applied Physician's Formula eye booster 2-in-1 lash boosting eyeliner and serum right above the lashes just to ensure you can't see the lash band.

So that's the most complicated part :) My brows are in Dark Brown Dipbrow by Anastasia Beverly Hills. For lips I used Tawny lipliner and applied Dose of Colors Berry Me matte lipstick. To set this whole look I sprayed Urban Decay de-slick Makeup Setting Spray for oil control all over my face. This just ensures that my makeup will stay in place and not become too oily. Love this spray.

Phew! Did you make it through all that? I swear it doesn't take me an hour and a half just to to my eye makeup.

BEST 'Hairsprays for Your Face'

I for one hate having to touch up my makeup a thousand times a day. I have oily skin so I was always reapplying powder which only made it worse and caused my pores to become clogged. I found the perfect solution when I discovered makeup setting spray or, what I like to call them, hairsprays for your face. These are something I can not go without now that I have tried them. There are a wide range of choices and prices but here are my three holy-grail hairsprays for your face:

These babies have saved me! E.l.f. Makeup Mist & Set, Victoria's Secret Prime & Set Makeup Spray, and MAC Fix+. All of these are relatively affordable and work so well. I started using hairspray for your face about a year ago when I found e.l.f. products at Target. I know my skin is happy with me for not piling powders on it all day. I can't even begin to tell you the difference in my skin!

I want to start off talking about this one by e.l.f. because it was the first one I tried and it is very cheap ($3.00). It is called Makeup Mist & Set. E.l.f. is available at WalMart and Target. Although a cheap brand their products are not disappointing. As you can see this Mist & Set contains aloe, green tea, cucumber, and vitamins A, C, and E, so it is very soothing for your skin. I use this one the most because I can always repurchase. I spray it directly onto my face after finishing a makeup look. It also works well if you apply it after your toner before moisturizer. Sometimes I even use it at night before bed to soothe my skin. It can also be used with a loose shadow, pigment or glitter. If you spray your brush with this before picking up the shadow it will help keep it in place. This is my third or fourth bottle. If you are skeptical about trying hairsprays for your face I recommend trying this one first. It is very gentle and great for all skin types, not to mention it is affordable!

This next setting spray I'm going to talk about is my FAVORITE! Victoria's Secret Make It Last Prime & Set Makeup Spray. It works best for my oily skin type and holds makeup in place for the longest period of time (out of any of the sprays). The bottle says it will hold makeup for eight hours and I believe it! I have repurchased this three or four times because I love it so much. It has always been available for me in the store. Fairly affordable ($14.00) and it is a good size bottle. I'm not sure why this product is not available online, but it is available in stores and on amazon, I'm sorry! I use this every day during the summer when my skin is the most oily. It sprays more than the e.l.f. spray so you have to be careful to hold it far enough away from your face and fan your face after with your hands. I also use this like the e.l.f. one and spray my brushes with it before applying a loose shadow or pigment. This one does not have all the good-for-you ingredients that the e.l.f. one does but I think it works much better at holding makeup in place. You can also use this as a primer before you apply your makeup for extra hold. If you're looking for the best hold at a great price this is the primer for you!

The next hairspray for your face I'm going to talk about is new to me. This is MAC Fix+. I have made my first few purchases from MAC and I love their products, so I thought I'd give this a try. This one is more expensive ($21.00) but has both good ingredients and good hold. They have a smaller size bottle if you aren't sure about how much you'll love it. This bottle is really big and I think will last me a long time. It mists very lightly, which I like since it was more expensive. This one has a smell, I'm not sure I love the smell but it isn't strong and doesn't last. I think this one works very well, but I'm not going to say it works better than the Victoria's Secret one. For my oily skin I think this is great for winter when my skin isn't too oily. I love using this one for applying loose eyeshadows and pigments as I explained before, this one works best for that. The benefits of this one are that it has better ingredients than the VS one and it holds just as well (just not for the same duration of time). Fix+ contains cucumber, fruit extract, and caffeine which are great for refreshing your face during the day!

To sum it all up, I use the e.l.f. makeup setting spray at night and throughout the day. I use the VS brand makeup spray right after I finish my makeup and again if I am going out. I use MAC Fix+ in the afternoon when my face needs a little pick-me-up and also to apply loose shadows and pigments. I love all three of these and I always keep them in stock. My skin is thanking me for not piling on more product and instead giving it a nice little mist just when it needs it. These hairsprays for your face will all leave you with glowing, dewy skin
